The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who spiked treats with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She stated the man proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The legal representative stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
