An extensive 60-day voyage through the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the death of an older woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew discovered the passenger was not present.

An extensive hunt discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and crew on the ship were notified that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" preventing any new passengers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The ship first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of money to join the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have done that might have preserved Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a extremely warm period, and mother fell ill on the uphill trek," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to return, unescorted. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a roll call.

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "working closely with investigators to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the family.

The ship caters for up to a hundred twenty travelers with forty-six crew, according to company information. It was specifically designed to enter remote regions of the nation's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on land visits.

Incidents like this are rare, and passenger vessels have procedures to track which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard just isn't an choice," an authority commented.

Cruise lines take these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such incidents from occurring," the authority added.
